Album reviews for FTR:» Boy Racer - FTR
by Erin Lee Tuesday, November 25

When I first listened to this I couldn't figure out if they were serious or not and I'm still not sure, but whatever they're doing it's catchy, amusing and you can't help but boogie around to it!
Boy Racer is FTR's debut EP release. Fronted by a charismatic Swedish opera singer Carina Barbro Hagg, who can often be seen sporting attire from the18th century minus the overwear - corsets, garters, gowns and the barrister style wig to top it off!
The EP is a mix of Rock, Dance, Soul, Funk, Opera and hilarious, cheesy Disco music. I have to say it's so cheesy, it's good! They include Chemical Brothers, ABBA, The Beach Boys, Roxy Music, David Bowie, Spinal Tap and Kraftwerk as some of their influences.
The first influences that came to my mind were the Scissor Sisters and Daft Punk, however some of the beats are similar to that of The Chemical Brothers. The EP is five tracks in total, however the last two tracks are remixes of the first two (I thought maybe they should have got some more songs together before releasing an EP). The first track, light-hearted house tune Boy Racer is not the bogan anthem you'd expect but an ode to cycling and sex, that brings you back to 90s disco and has an irresistible hook and chorus. The promo clip features some special guest appearances by The Presets.
The second track Discover has already been picked up by Radio Basile in Italy and other stations in Florence and Milan. Perhaps Australian radio will pick up some of their own in the near future
